AabPashi — Smart Irrigation
for Pakistan's Farmers
A satellite-powered decision support system that bridges the gap between official canal rotation plans and smallholder farmers — combining GPS registration, NDWI water stress analysis, and 5-day weather forecasts into a single mobile-first platform.

Overview
Pakistan's Water Crisis Meets Digital Infrastructure
Pakistan is among the top ten nations most vulnerable to climate-induced water stress. Agriculture consumes over 90% of the country's freshwater, yet most farms still use inefficient flood irrigation. The Punjab Irrigation Department publishes rotational canal schedules (warabandi), but farmers have no accessible digital tool to use this data. AabPashi was built to close this gap — directly at the field level.
The Problem
Farmers Flying Blind
- No digital access to official canal rotation schedules
- No real-time water stress data at the field level
- 60%+ of irrigation water lost to poor timing and seepage
- Low digital literacy — tools must work on basic smartphones
- Over-extraction of groundwater due to lack of surface water data
The Solution
One Platform, Three Data Streams
AabPashi integrates three previously siloed data sources into a single farmer-facing interface: official Punjab Irrigation Department warabandi schedules, satellite-based NDWI water stress maps via Google Earth Engine, and Open-Meteo 5-day weather forecasts — all tied to a farmer's GPS-registered field location.
Key Features
Eight Capabilities, One Platform
Deployment
Three-Tier Cloud Deployment
AabPashi spans three independent cloud providers: Vercel hosts the Next.js frontend, a DigitalOcean Droplet (Bangalore) runs the Dockerised Python + GEE scripts, and MongoDB Atlas (Bangalore) persists all data. Porkbun provides the custom domain.
Technology Stack
Built on Modern Open-Source Infrastructure
Validation
Tested, Deployed, and Live
All 7 core test cases passed in user acceptance testing — including OTP auth, GPS farm registration, canal search by name and field, water stress analysis, and 5-day weather forecast. The platform is live at dashboard.aabpashi.com and designed to support up to 10,000 concurrent users.
